Every first Friday of the month: a moment of prayer

Every first Friday of the month, at 10 AM, there's a community prayer at the grave of Herman Wijns.

We commence by mentioning the several intentions, we proceed by praying the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary.

Next, there's a prayer in honor of Jesus' five wounds. The Holy Hart Friday (the first Friday of every month) was Herman's most revered day; he united himself with the suffering Christ. That's why we pray the prayer in honor of the Lord's wounds. It is followed by the song "Salve Regina” to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Next, we pray the prayer for Herman's intercession and the prayer for the beatification of the young Herman Wijns. Between these two prayers, the song "Herman Wijns" is sung, which was written by the Dutch Chrisko-choir.

We finish by singing the song "Hear us calling" (Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary).

All of this takes about 45 minutes of our time, but each time, it fills our heart with great joy. After the prayers, the remembrance house, which located next to the cemetery, is open.

Adress of the cemetery: Van Heybeeckstraat - 2170 Merksem (Antwerp).

Third Tuesday of the month: moment of prayer

Every third Tuesday of the month, at 8 PM, there's a community prayer at the remembrance house.

We commence by mentioning the several intentions, we proceed by praying the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary.

After that, the song "Salve Regina" is sung, to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is followed by the prayer for Herman's intercession and the prayer for the beatification of the young Herman Wijns. Between these two prayers, the song "Herman Wijns" is sung, which was written by the Dutch Chrisko-choir.

Next, we read a reflective essay, after which we remain silent for a minute, to let the meaning of the words sink in.

We finish by singing the song "Hear us calling" (Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary).

Then, a cup of tea or coffee is offered, and people can have a chat. In the cold, dark winter months, there aren't many visitors, but we hope the number of participants will gradually keep on growing, to give our communal prayer more strength. Each and every time, it's a heartwarming experience, and it gives us the opportunity to get to know each other.

Address of the remembrance house: Van Heybeeckstraat 23 - 2170 Merksem (Antwerp).
